Be the Change!

As the world celebrates the centenary of International Women’s Day, Women of Worth (WOW) launches the Be the Change campaign, at Express Avenue Mall, Chennai, on Tuesday, March 8, 2011.

The all-day event at Express Avenue will run from 11 am to 9 pm, and includes prize giveaways, a showcase of NGO’s working with women’s issues, and an audience- collaborative work of art called, “The Wall of Worth.” The event will be capped off with a Be the Change concert from 6 pm to 8 pm, featuring some of Chennai’s best artists.

“We hope to reach the city of Chennai with the message that ‘every woman is a woman of worth,’ says WOW director Kavitha Emmanuel. “Every woman has the right to a better life and a better future, which includes the right to education, freedom and equal job opportunity. This campaign is about restoring dignity, respect and value to every woman and girl child.”

At the “Wall of Change,” passersby at the mall will have the opportunity to jot down their thoughts on the progress—and the problems—experienced by women and girls today. The cards will be artfully arranged, revealing a mosaic pattern.

 

Fabulous competitions coming up at the “Be the Change!” event on Tuesday, including the “100-second Henna Hands Art Contest”. 100 seconds to create something beautiful in honour of 100 years of International Women’s Day!
