Rani: Rescued From An Alcoholic & Abusive Father
Rani (name changed), a 13 year old, has only known her father as a drunk. Rani has been moved around to ensure her safety away from her father. As a long term solution, Rani’s aunt approached the Child Welfare Committee to request admission at a government center that will provide both lodging and education for Rani.
Rani now has minimal contact with any family member, including her mother. This lack of connection with her family will render her ill-equipped to rejoin her community after she graduates high school.
Many children end up in the system because of negligent parents and communities that are not equipped to comprehensively address the problem of alcoholism. This can change.
Our community intervention programs engage the men and women of the community to collectively address problems with alcoholism. WOW also has lifeskills training and group therapy for the girls like Rani at the government home.
We need your support to continue our work.
Alcoholism plagues Indian communities across socio-economic lines and is often characterised by severe cases of domestic violence.

Manjula & Madhu: Trafficked As Children
Human trafficking is not an issue that can be associated to some distant region that does not affect us. WOW encounters cases of trafficking of children in our own backyard – Chennai city limits.
Two sisters, Manjula and Madhu (names changed), were rescued from a gang that commonly works the train stations in the city. However, it was too late for their brother who was sold just prior to the rescue to an unknown person. Government sponsored interventions such as Childline and Juvenile Aid Police Unit often rescue children like Manjula and Madhu. Yet sadly many slip through the cracks.
WOW works with trafficked children in different capacities ranging from complete psychological evaluations, counseling, and rehabilitative interventions, depending on the needs of the rescue organization and the CWC. Each story we encounter is real and weighs heavily on us.
Eventually the brother of these sisters was rescued, but the journey the three siblings face to overcome these nightmarish experiences will remain immensely challenging.
We invite you to join us in our efforts to provide these much needed services.
Support girls like Manjula and Madhu through your generous donations.

Shalini: A Violent Past, A Future Of Hope
When working on rehabilitation programs and crisis interventions, there is no one-size-fits-all approach. For instance, consider 17-year-old Shalini (name changed). Her story is brimming with violence. Her father, a fisherman by profession, is a local political thug. As many young and mislead teen girls, she fell in love, eloped, and was pregnant at the age of 16. But the marriage was broken, her husband who was over the age of 21, was imprisoned under child marriage laws, and their baby was aborted.
WOW’s interventions have helped her refocus priorities and pursue her 10th standard exams. This will allow her to have a goal and a mission, and even feel a sense of accomplishment. An education will also provide her independence. Our aim is to empower Shalini to make good and healthy life choices for herself and a family she one day hopes to raise. Her violence filled past does not have to control her future.
We urge you to invest in the lives of many adolescent girls like Shalini through sponsoring our education and rehabilitation efforts.
WOW is committed to invest in the lives of the adolescent girls in need to stability, care and mentorship.
